Dr Laurie Weber

Veterinarian/Owner

Dr Laurie Weber was raised in Calgary and has always had a love for animals. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Zoology at The University of Calgary in 1988. She then went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, with Distinction, from Saskatoon’s Western College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1992. Laurie enjoys all aspects of health care, including medicine and soft tissue surgery, and has a special interest in dermatology, having completed a Masters course in Dermatology for Small Animal Veterinarians in 2011 through Massey University in New Zealand. Laurie also enjoys developing relationships with both people and their pets.

After graduating Laurie spent time working first in Saskatoon, followed by several years in Kelowna before returning to Calgary. She spent the next two decades raising her daughters and multiple fur kids while employed at a variety of Calgary small animal clinics. Although Calgary has been home for many years Laurie jumped at the opportunity to resettle in the small, intimate community of Qualicum Beach. When not working, Laurie can be found with Wren, her Flat Coated Retriever, exploring the lovely areas near her home, while searching for new subjects to paint. Laurie also enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Dr Amie McCarthy

Veterinarian

Dr. Amie McCarthy grew up in the States and recently relocated to Vancouver Island. She attended Colorado State University where she completed her undergraduate and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees. Upon graduation from CSU in 2018, Amie worked as a mixed animal practitioner for 5 years before moving to Vancouver Island.

Dr. Amie’s focus in veterinary medicine is working with you, as a team, to create a comprehensive health plan to help your pet live a long, full, happy life. She believes going to the vet shouldn’t be a scary adventure for your pet, or yourself. She enjoys using Fear Free tactics with dogs and cats that may be overly frightened, or have been deemed aggressive. Sometimes our critters need a little extra time and space to gain trust and relax in the clinic setting. Dr. Amie’s other interests in veterinary medicine include internal medicine, ultrasonography, behavior consults and working with rescues.  Her favorite
breed is rescue! Amie feels strongly about reducing the unwanted pet populations through spaying and neutering and breaking stereotypes that rescue animals have something wrong with them.  She has a particularly soft spot for Pit Bulls and other Bully breeds. Make sure to bring yours by to meet her!

Amie moved with her husband, Carl, and 3 rescue dogs Bradley, Walter and Tootsie. Amie and Carl have been enjoying all the wonderful things Vancouver Island has to offer. You may find them exploring the trails and beaches with their pups, trying new restaurants and food trucks (definite foodies!) or out at a farmer’s market. When at home, she is recently trying her hand at an herb and vegetable garden. We’ll let you know how that goes…….

Kristyn

Registered Veterinary Technologist

Kristyn is a Registered Veterinary Technician and joined the team at Mid-Isle in spring of 2023. She graduated from Thompson River University in 2012 with a diploma in Animal Health Technology. After graduating she moved to Victoria where she worked as an RVT in small animal general practice before relocating to Qualicum Beach.

Kristyn believes the veterinary experience should be as pleasant and stress-free as possible for both the pets and their people. On top of enjoying the technical aspects of her career, she enjoys fostering relationships with clients - they are a part of their pet’s health care team too.

In her spare time Kristyn can be found spending time outside, testing new recipes or curled up with her cat and a good book.

Karen

Reception/Veterinary Assistant

Karen was born and raised in Qualicum Beach.

She came to us from a career in pharmacy after deciding she needed a change, she’s always had a love for animals so veterinary medicine was a perfect fit!

She’s a mother of 2, cats not children, and spends most of her time up in her cabin in the woods with them. When she does venture down from her mountain she can be found perusing local bookstores, exploring trails, and saying hi to every single animal she comes across (with permission of course).

Kathleen

Reception/Veterinary Assistant

Kathleen joined the Mid-Isle team in September 2023. She grew up in the Comox Valley on a small family farm & spent her childhood around cows, horses, pigs, dogs & cats. You could often find her hiding with the kittens in the hayloft.

Kathleen graduated as a Veterinary Assistant from the University of the Fraser Valley in 2016. She spent a few years helping pets & rescues in the community before returning home to Vancouver Island in 2019. Kathleen worked at a busy practice in her hometown before relocating to Qualicum. She believes the hospital doesn't need to be a scary place & is always ready to offer a snack & some extra love.

In her free time, Kathleen enjoys a variety of hobbies including photography, gardening, hiking, camping, live music & birdwatching. She spends a lot of time with her young rescue cat, Merlin, who is currently in training to be an adventure cat.

Darcie Adolf

Registered Veterinary Technologist/Owner

Darcie lived in Saskatoon, then moved with her family to an acreage just outside of Calgary as a young child. Life on the acreage included caring for cats, dogs, horses, rabbits, guinea pigs,  chickens and ducks, and taking part in the 4H program. Her passion for animals led her to completion of the Animal Health Technologist program at Olds College. After graduation in 1996, she began working in Calgary clinics caring for, and gaining experience in treating wildlife, exotic animals, and small animals. She has volunteered with the Alberta Animal Task Force, Calgary Humane Society, ARF Rescue and Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society. She has a special interest in animal welfare, spay and neuter initiatives, and anesthesia and nutrition.

In her spare time, Darcie enjoys her fur and feather family of 2 rescue dogs, Izzy and Bayley, 3 rescue cats Hughie, Milo, and Joey, 2 parrots (Eclectus), Oliver and Dora, and Moe, her 25 year old Mourning Dove, another rescue. They all get along together!  She, the dogs, and Oliver (in his parrot backpack) enjoy discovering the beautiful pathways around Qualicum/Parksville area, and she can often be found at the local garden nurseries looking for new plants for her garden.

It has been her dream to move to the Island and own a vet clinic for many years and when the opportunity came to do both, she jumped at the chance. She hopes this will allow her to serve the community and the animals living in it with compassion and kindness for many years to come.

Dave pic_edited.jpg
Dr Dave Brace

Veterinarian

Dr. Dave Brace comes to us with 30 years of experience as a small animal Veterinarian. He graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, then spent much of his career as an owner of a small animal veterinary clinic in Canmore, AB. His love of the ocean and boats brought him to Vancouver Island and he hasn’t looked back since. He is now enjoying a good balance of boating (with his chiweenie by his side) and veterinary medicine!

Dr Dave has a passion for internal medicine and ultrasound and is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the more complicated cases. He treats every animal like his own and has a soft spot for the small dogs that need a little extra TLC. He strongly believes that all animals should be given the best life possible and has been heavily involved with rescue organizations. He played a big role in helping with the many dogs displaced by Hurricane Katrina and the terrible aftermath.

When Dr. Dave is not on the water, you can find him exploring the hiking trails, visiting the local coffee shops and visiting with friends.

Kyara was raised in Port McNeill and spent her childhood riding horses, exploring the outdoors with her border collie, and volunteering at the Marble River Hatchery. She currently resides in the Comox valley and enjoys camping or kayaking with her pomeranian cross, Kenai
